About Us

Seedlings Preschool provides play, education and care for 2-4 year olds in a stimulating, safe and caring environment. We have a large outdoor space and run regular Forest School sessions. We are an independent preschool run by a local board of directors.

Our Preschool

Seedlings Preschool is based in the grounds of Dunstone Primary School, and was established in 2004. Inside, we have a main room where most indoor activities take place; it has a cosy book corner and lots of space for creativity. We also have a quiet room, where we hold small group activities, encourage quiet time and down time.

Outside we have a spacious covered decking area for free-flow play. We also have a large patio for water play and where our apple tree grows. In addition, we have access to a woodland area and run regular Forest School activities for all children throughout the week.

We often welcome visitors to help provide educational experiences, and Jo Jingles visits us once a week to lead interactive music sessions and singing with the children.

We are rated as a Good provider by Ofsted. Read our latest report.

Our Aims

Provide high quality care and education for children

Work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop

Add to the life and well-being of our local community

Offer children and their parents a service which promotes equality and values diversity.

How We Work

Seedlings has a Key Person system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible. They will make sure that what the preschool provides is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. When your child first starts, their key person will help them to settle and to benefit from the preschool’s activities. A buddy system between staff is in place to ensure all children always have a familiar face to support them.

Each child at Seedlings Preschool will have a learning journey that develops with them. We use Tapestry as an online record of their learning journey and experience, which parents can access securely and add to if they wish.

We also provide each child with a home link book which is intended to be a two-way communication between staff and parents. For example, we may share about something particular the child has engaged with during the day or friendships/achievements we have noticed.

Early Years Curriculum

We deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) promoting all areas of your child’s development through play and planned opportunities. We use Tapestry to record your child’s learning journey.

SEN Support

We operate a completely inclusive policy, and ensure all children have the opportunity to thrive. Our staff use Makaton to help children communicate, and we have an Elklan practitioner.

Forest School

We run regular Forest School sessions throughout the week in our woodland space on site. Suitable clothing is provided to enable the activity to operate regardless of the weather.

What Our Families are Saying

An absolutely fantastic preschool where they really do put the children first, they are always doing some creative activity whether that’s forest school, baking, learning a new language or creative tasks! All five of my boys have attended Seedlings and I would highly recommend this preschool for all budding adventurers!

The communication is excellent. They always make time to listen to any issues and more importantly they act on it if you have concerns about your child’s development. If you want your child to go to a preschool that not only cares for your child to a high standard but also moulds them for school so they get the best start possible, then choose Seedlings!

Seedlings is a fantastic place to see your children grow and learn. I love the fact that our children get to experience Forest School and can make use of the outdoor space when they want to.

My daughter loves Seedlings. From day one, everyone was very welcoming and she settled in quickly. Her speech developed rapidly, and now she’s a proper chatterbox! Seedlings have been brilliant at assisting with her toilet training too. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Our Staff

We have a wonderful staff team who are ready to welcome your child to our preschool. All our staff have paediatric first aid training.
