About Us
Seedlings provides play, education and care for children aged 3 months – 4 years old in a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment.
We have a large outdoor space and run regular Outdoor Learning sessions.
We are an independent setting run by a local Board of Directors.
Our Setting
Seedlings is based in the grounds of Hooe Primary School, and was originally established in Dunstone in 2004. We have five rooms for our children, based around age and development – Ducklings, Hedgehogs, Cubs, Foxes and Squirrels. You can find out more about each of the rooms by clicking on their names above.
Our outdoor space is currently having renovation works completed, to ensure each age group has somewhere suitable to play and access fresh air. We also have access to a woodland area and run regular Outdoor Learning activities and visits for all children throughout the week.
We like to welcome visitors to help provide educational experiences.
Our Aims
Provide high quality care and education for children
Work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop
Add to the life and well-being of our local community
Offer children and their parents a service which promotes equality and values diversity.
How We Work
Our setting is split into five rooms – Ducklings for our babies (3 months to 12 months/mobile), Hedgehogs for our toddlers (12-24 months), Cubs, Foxes for our middle group (24-36 months) and Squirrels for our preschoolers (3-4 year olds). Each room has access to our outdoor areas, Outdoor Learning and Forest School provision and gives the opportunity for children to grow and develop at their own pace.
We also have a Key Person system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children whose development they are responsible for – they will make sure that what the preschool provides is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. When your child first starts, their Key Person will help them to settle and to benefit from the setting’s activities. A buddy system between staff is in place to ensure all children always have a familiar face to support them.
Each child at Seedlings will have a learning journey that develops with them. We use EyLog as an online record of their learning journey and experience, which parents can access securely and add to if they wish.
Early Years Curriculum
We deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) promoting all areas of your child’s development through play and planned opportunities. We use EyLog to record your child’s learning journey.
SEND Support
We operate a completely inclusive policy, and ensure all children have the opportunity to thrive.
Our staff use Makaton to help children communicate.
Outdoor Learning
We run regular Outdoor Learning sessions (including Forest School) throughout the week. Suitable clothing is provided to enable the activity to operate regardless of the weather.
